Marking the observance of Bible Month, Senate Minority Leader Alan Peter Cayetano on Friday said success should be measured by faithfulness to one’s purpose and adherence to biblical principles, rather than by numbers, influence, or material gain.
Speaking at the Laguna Pastors and Workers Summit 2026 on January 30, Cayetano discussed what he described as the “5 Ps of the Bible,” explaining how Scripture speaks to power, purpose, potential, principle, and people as guides for how success is understood and lived out.
He stressed that success becomes distorted when it is reduced to size, popularity, or wealth, saying such measures often pull people away from the purpose for which they were created.
“Ang success ay nakatali sa purpose mo… The Bible is a book of power. The Bible is a book of potential. The Bible uses people,” he said.
Cayetano warned that misleading ideas of success often come from influences that appear attractive but are ultimately false.
“Ang sinungaling will tell you that success is the number of likes on your Instagram or Facebook. Success is the number in your bank account. Success is the number of people who go to your church,” he said.
The senator also emphasized that biblical principles remain constant and are not open to debate, describing them as foundations that apply across professions and beliefs.
“You cannot debate principle… Kung ano ang iyong itatanim, iyon ang iyong aanihin,” he said.
Addressing pastors and church workers, Cayetano called for continued prayer and guidance so that people remain aligned with their purpose and do not lose sight of moral grounding.
“Pag pinagpe-pray niyo po ang inyong mayors, congressmen, kapitan… ipag-pray niyo i-reveal ni Lord sa kanya ang [kanilang] potential,” he said.
Cayetano said he remains confident that progress follows when biblical values are lived out consistently, both within faith communities and beyond.
“Kung babalik tayo sa basic na ang Bible ay salita ng Diyos… follow its principles. Then you will feel its power. You will see your purpose. You will see your potential,” he said.
